If Elected As Your Deputy In St Lawrence, St John & Trinity
These will be my promises to you:
I will represent you to the best of my ability, working with the Constables and Deputies to make sure your voice is heard in government.
I will listen to people and businesses in the Parishes to understand the different challenges they face and will work with you to see if they can be overcome.
I will be accessible and approachable and will keep you informed about matters before the States that could impact you, your family and your friends.
I am used to a busy schedule and will actively communicate via email and social media but I also believe there is great value in meeting face-to-face, so I will co-ordinate with the other Deputies and Constables to hold monthly surgeries rotating around the Parishes to give everyone the opportunity to speak with us about the issues that matter most to them.
I will encourage community and political participation, engaging in parish assemblies and events, as I have done for years in St Lawrence.
Issues and projects that I’d like to work on include:
Supporting greater access to our parishes for buses, cyclists and pedestrians. I will work with the Parish authorities, residents, businesses and the Infrastructure Department to find solutions to improve safety and encourage pedestrians and cyclists in and around our parishes.
I’ll do all I can to protect the heritage, natural beauty and environment of our Parishes. Over the past four years, I have done so via the Planning Committee, the Island Plan debate and through my work in government, where I have supported farmers and our rural economies.
Working as your Deputy
I will continue my work to help Parishioners when facing bureaucracy or challenges that affect them. I have helped islanders with medical, housing, planning, financial and other issues over the past four years.
I will challenge the Government on waste and public spending, so your hard-earned taxes are spent more wisely.
I will continue to protect our rural environment and support our rural businesses.
In the States
I want to continue my work bringing a level of analysis and questioning that is too often absent from our democratic process. I am always aware that I work for you and whether as minister or scrutiny, I will ensure that decisions are made with evidence and your interests at heart.
The role of Deputy requires balance between islandwide issues, matters in our parishes. I believe the past four years have shown that I can maintain the dual focus that's needed.
I'll continue to work hard in the States to ensure your voice is heard and that the Government is transparent and accountable to you.
Engagement with the Island Plan
This term there will be another Island Plan debate (yes, another!). This will result in decision making that affects all of us and the quality of our lives. I will make sure your views are heard and that our rural parishes are protected.
This time, Government should not ask for the rezoning of green fields without having first understood the issue of unused properties and fully exploited States-owned and brownfield land.
The last Island Plan did not do enough to support enterprise in Jersey. I will do all I can to ensure this mistake isn't made again.
To give weight to our voices, I'd like to see each Parish set up a representative working group that will ensure the views of Parishioners are collected and taken into account in the Planning process.
